ABILITIES GROUP

"Abilities Group is a 58 year old non-profit, incorporated society dedicated to enriching the lives of people with disabilities through meaningful work.  We employ over 120 disabled people onsite in Glenfield where we carry out all kinds of business services such as, recycling (E-Waste, polystyrene, secure document and data destruction, cardboard and more) assembly work, packaging, shrink wrapping, re-working, etc.  Some of our staff have been with us for over 30 years!  The atmosphere onsite is a hive of activity and our employees truly realize all the multitude of benefits of employment including self-respect, pride and camaraderie.

We have are a significant participant in e-waste recycling (anything electronic that is obsolete or has reached the end of its life) as well as an integral part of the TV Take Back recycling campaign and have one of the only machines in New Zealand that can safely and to an international standard, separate and prepare TV glass for recycling.  More recently we have procured a polystyrene recycling system and also have a computer hard drive shredder.

We operate like a regular business but rely on the generosity of the community, grants and gifts to remain viable.   Our relationship with Workgear goes back many years when they approached us to offer help and now regularly support for us by supplying safety gear, including Abilities branded high vis vests, whenever we need them!  We are truly grateful for Workgear's keen interest in helping us when we need it. They're a great bunch of people!"
